Dr. Barrett offers educational consults for clients who cannot travel to be seen in-person at her practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota. These consults are educational in nature and are designed to help clients navigate their health concerns. Dr. Barrett acts as a consultant on your case. These consults do not substitute for medical care. To better understand these consultations and their limitations please see our FAQ below.
What is a Virtual Consultation?
Dr. Barrett recognizes that Naturopathic Medicine is a small but growing profession and there are many people who don’t have access to a Naturopathic doctor locally. Virtual educational consultations are a way to help people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to this important medicine. However, since this visit is being done virtually, Dr. Barrett cannot act as your physician and therefore can only provide educational guidance for your care. If you would like Dr. Barrett to act as your physician, you will need to schedule an in person visit at her office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
What Can I Expect from A Virtual Consultation?
During this educational consult, Dr. Barrett can provide you with information about your work-up, diagnosis, what you’ve tried in the past, and educate you regarding possible next steps that you can discuss with your medical providers. Dr. Barrett cannot order labs or imaging, diagnose your condition, prescribe particular treatments, or in other ways act as your physician via these consults. These consults are educational in nature only and do no substitute for proper medical care. Anything discussed during these consults should first be reviewed by your medical team and implemented only if deemed safe and appropriate.
How Does The Virtual Consultation Work?
All video consultations are done through doxy.me which is a HIPAA compliant telemedicine platform. Even though this is an educational consultation and not medical care, we choose to use a platform with strict privacy standards. Your confirmation email will provide instructions for using doxy.me as well as a direct link to ‘video call in’ for your appointment. Click on the link 5-10 minutes before your appointment time and you will be placed in ‘the waiting room’. Dr Barrett will initiate your call from ‘the waiting room’ at your appointment time. We recommend you use headphones or earbuds that have a built in with microphone (or you can use your computer's built in mic with a regular set of headphones). Make sure you're in a spot with a strong wifi signal or connect via ethernet directly to your Internet source.
Dr. Barrett utilizes a client portal software called Charm. You will receive an invitation to Charm within a few days of scheduling your initial virtual consultation. Inside of Charm you can upload your previous records. After each consultation, summary documents and handouts will be available by logging in to Charm.
